Finding himself among 7,000 camels in northern Africa at the world’s largest live camel market is one of Charlie Blomfield’s more unusual on-the-job experiences.

Charlie is managing director and CEO of Agricultural Management Company Pty Ltd (AMC), a specialist company that manages agricultural businesses and rural property in the role of Asset Manager with extensive experience in Australia, Asia and South America. AMC offers international agribusiness advisory services across a number of commodity sectors.

He explored the camel market while travelling through the Middle East with clients, helping them develop agricultural projects. AMC operates nationally across Australia, in south-east Asia, and has two Middle East business development representatives based locally.

While studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science majoring in Animal Science at UQ, Mr Blomfield gained full-time work with Rural Management Partners, which provided agricultural management services to investors.

“UQ assisted in allowing my studies to be flexible enough to work at the same time,” Mr Blomfield said.

In his first year after university, Charlie launched his first business, Carthona Agriculture, and, within two years merged it with Rural Management Partners to form AMC.

He assumed management of the larger entity, expanding its domestic and international business. AMC is positioned as the pre-eminent independent agricultural Asset Manager and is the number one choice for firms seeking a strategic partner in agribusiness.

His key responsibilities include developing corporate strategies, sustainably growing the business, developing strategic partnerships and managing key client contracts.

As well as travelling throughout regional Australia to properties under AMC management, Mr Blomfield enjoys working with international clients in the Middle East, the US, South America and Asia.

He says his UQ degree gave him the foundation to take on the challenge of running a private small-to-medium enterprise with a practical focus.

He aims to develop a group of companies based on investing in and managing rural and regional assets in the primary and resources industries.
